Traditions

Topic: Traditions. Do you have any old ones? Have you started any new ones?
what are your favorite ones?

When I think of traditions, I mostly think of Christmas time. I mean that's when most ppls traditions come out. It's so far from Christmas, I'll try to table that part.

I don't think I carry on many of the day to day type of traditions that my family had. After all my mom and dad both worked constantly, and I'm a stay-at-home mom now, and I insisted that my husband not work 12-14 hours a day and our kids never see him or play with him. And I didn't agree with spanking and some of the child rearing ideas. Nor do I tell my kids what's wrong with them, well I try not to, hopefully just what is right.

So we incorporated the good things, I think of my family life and Jeff''s. One thing we had in common, before we married, was a strong close family life. I had a big extended family and he a small one, but the loyalty among us can not be denied. Being so far away from my family now, no aunts, uncles and thousands of cousins nearby, to visit every weekend. I know my kids aren't getting those values the way they I did, but hopefully when they see me run next door to help the neighbors, it tells them something similar.

As kid growing up we went to church every Sunday morning with dad, then off to Uncle Minny's for a comic book and a soda, if it was a holiday we went to the house saw everyone up there for cocktails. Stopped along the way to visit my Aunt Angie and Uncle Custy. Then home for Sunday dinner. We had dinner every night at 6, but never together. My dad was at the store when mom ate, then she went up and he came home. So Sunday was it for a family time. The rest of traditions all revolve around holidays, eating, drinking and generally enjoying life.

I have to admit I don't follow any of those traditions, except dinner at 6, still. I do still follow our many Christmas traditions, mine and jeff's as well as some new ones. But really those should be discussed later.

I think think I passed along the sense of loyalty, integrity, family values and love to my kids and that's the main message of traditions anyways.
